BrainTap Technology and How It Helps Your Nervous System Reset
Your brain is built for rest. The problem is that modern life, and especially the aftermath of trauma, makes that rest incredibly hard to reach. Your brain gets used to a certain level of stimulation and alertness, and without help, it can stay stuck there indefinitely, even when you desperately want to slow down.
BrainTap is one of the most interesting tools I’ve found for addressing this directly. That’s why it has a home in my Lab.
BrainTap combines audio technology and light pulses to guide your brain into specific states of relaxed attention. You wear a headset that delivers binaural audio, sound engineered to gently influence brainwave activity, along with pulses of light through your eyes and ears. Together, these inputs create a guided experience that most people describe as deeply restful and sometimes pretty vivid.
The technical principle at work is called brainwave entrainment. When your brain receives rhythmic sensory input at certain frequencies, it tends to sync its own electrical activity to match. BrainTap uses this to guide your brain toward alpha, theta, or delta states depending on the session you choose. Those are the states tied to deep relaxation, creative openness, and restorative sleep.
If you’re working through trauma, this matters a lot. A dysregulated nervous system often doesn’t have a good model for what regulation actually feels like. BrainTap gives it one, over and over, until your brain starts finding its own way there.
Sessions in my Lab are available on their own or as part of your care plan. Come in and feel what your brain is like when it actually gets a break.
If you want to try BrainTap for yourself, you can save $100 on the headset here: https://braintap.com/partner-headset-specials/?afmc=ba6&utm_campaign=b9v&utm_source=leaddyno&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_content=ba6. One client started using BrainTap sessions before bed after months of feeling too wired to fall asleep easily even on good days. She told me it became part of her nightly routine, something her brain came to associate with permission to finally power down.
